The Student Housing Program provides appropriate and affordable accommodation to eligible tertiary students in South Australia. Administered by Housing SA, the program aims to meet the housing needs of students by providing suitable single and shared accommodation close to public transport, shops and other community services.

Flexible choices
- House types in metropolitan and some country locations
- Single accommodation, you may arrange to share
- Location ie close to public transport and community facilities like shops, parks and universities
- Up to 12 months lease
Flexible leases
Generally leases are given for up to a 12 month period. Special arrangements can sometimes be made, so talk to the program consultant.
Can I live with friends?
Yes. However make sure you apply to the program consultant first.
General costs
- Security deposit - when a home is allocated to you, you will need to pay a security deposit, usually the equivalent of one week's rent.
- Rent in advance - you'll need to pay two weeks' rent in advance.
- Utilities - you'll have to pay connection fees, rent and any other charges related to electricity, gas and other fuel, telephone and other services or equipment.
- You'll also be charged for your water consumption, based on an assessment of the home.
Rent
Rents are assessed at 75% of market rents and depend on the type of house and its location.
Eligibility
Any tertiary student with an independent income such as Austudy can apply. If you're enrolled in a course at a recognised tertiary educational institution, you can register your interest. This applies to tertiary students in South Australia, around Australia, and from overseas.
